flexible plastic
making plastic flexible is often referred to as "plasticizing".traditional plasticizers is to partially or completely dissolve in the polymer, leaving space between the chemical bonds of the plastic, allowing movement at the molecular level-which makes the plastic more flexible.
conventional plasticizers include liquids such as water, phthalates, caprolactam, BBSA, mineral oil, and other chemicals.to migrate or leach out of the plastic and become brittle over time.for this reason, these conventional plasticizers cannot be used in critical applications or extreme environments.Using Flexil™ technology, the system plasticizes by creating a gel network, allowing the system to remain flexible beyond the original transition temperature of the polymer.
Flexil™ is a technology based on reactive modified polysiloxanes, which can be used as a solid or a liquid, and can reduce the flexural modulus of plastics without being soluble in polymers. The use of this unique technology in plastic compounds enables the material to be used at temperatures below -60°C, thereby improving impact resistance and reducing modulus without affecting heat distortion temperature.
